Travelling South East Asia is incredible; freespirited gallivanting around temples and turquoise beaches, returning home with some of the best memories of your life (will you ever top them?!), a pretty good tan, new friends and an Instagram feed your mates will be well jel of.
But if you’re a woman, chances are you’ll come back with a fair share of fuzz in places you just couldn’t keep trimmed along the way. After just 3 months into our trip, I was dreaming of being reunited with my monthly de-fuzz at my fave wax hangout in London. I’m no princess, but waxing is my ONE treat that keeps me feeling confident on all my bikini-clad adventures in the surf & sun. Which is why I reached new levels of stoke when I discovered Honey Pot, Colombo in our fifth month on the road.
Boys, turn away if you’re squeamish… keep looking if you’re interested. Girls, I’m going to tell you about the BEST WAX in South East Asia – where to find it and how much it’s going to cost you. Here’s the lowdown, straight outa wax-town.
Born out of a passion for beauty by a Sri Lankan sister duo, Honey Pot beauty salon has a waxing menu longer than your local Indian takeaway, including different waxes depending on your skin type for a tailored experience. Not only that, but it’s an entirely female run enterprise which strives to empower the local community by providing jobs for women from all walks of life.
If you’re travelling in Sri Lanka and need a wax, you’ll need to join the city hustle for a day or two. And with Honey Pot looking set to open more locations across Sri Lanka in the next few years, if you’re travelling in Lanka long term but not in Colombo and looking for a de-fuzz, you’ll need to keep your peepers peeled to see where they pop up next.
Here’s what makes it so special and why you need to make an appointment if you’re looking for a wax while you’re in Sri Lanka. The Hollywood wax cleaned me out for 7 WHOLE weeks. I could definitely have gone longer if needed. I was so impressed with the how clean, fast, and tidy the wax was. In fact it was so good that I asked her to give my legs a wax as well!
But the BEST BIT? It was so flippin’ quick! in under 40 minutes I’d had half my weight in body hair removed. SCORE for getting out and exploring the best hipster hangouts in Colombo.
Where to find Honey Pot
There are actually TWO Honey Pot salons. Boys if you’re still looking you can go to one of them if you need a little travel treat too (don’t be shy!). Ladies, you can go to both but the one on Park Road is Ladies Only and is the one I went to.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the type of wax which is used. But to give you a rough idea, for normal skin with the standard wax (which I used) the costs were as follows:
- Leg wax – 1100 LKR (Half leg including toes for standard wax)
- Bikini Wax – 2600 LKR (Hollywood – that’s EVERYTHING OFF – using the standard wax)
For a full price list you’ll need to give them a call or message them on Facebook.
How to book
If you have a local sim, just give them a call. Alternatively, you can try to make an appointment via Facebook Messenger but I would recommend calling them as it’s much quicker and easier.
Go, just go! For a little feminine normality while you’re travelling or backpacking, you’ll feel a million dollars afterwards. I felt like I was walking on AIR for two whole days after my bikini and leg wax.
